Medicines and Miracles 9

Unlearn and relearn  -

In god we trust, everyone else, must bring evidence.

Back in the city, Mehr walked past Dr. Sana at work. The lady always had a radiant smile and a certain uncanny charm which most people would instantly notice, but could never categorize what it was. She walked with a certain poise, mostly avoiding the touch of people and things which she deemed to be holding negative vibes as she said. Mehr admired that eccentric nature this woman had, she waved her a hello and went ahead.
Sitting in her spacious cabin, Dr. Sana looked around and re adjusted her crystal lotus collection which someone must have disturbed while cleaning her desk. She was very particular about her office space and had made a special request for the North facing cabin, which according to her request made her productive. Others around her coveted the corner office as the space had two sides of glass panels, bringing in enough light to illuminate the space, the crystal artefacts accentuated the brightness and lit up the space like a mini crystal carnival. On the walls she had wall mounted vines growing out of conch shells, brought in from some tropical country, and a small bowl of fresh jasmine floating in the water was always at her side table. All in all, the space radiated a pleasant sense of positivity. Seeing Mehr on her way, reminded Dr. Sana

"Mehr "
"Mehr, can you go see Dr. Sana, we are planning to launch her clinical speciality officially and would need her inputs just to make sure we cover all the aspects of whatever it is that she does" . "I cannot risk coming off as a looney bin in front of the assessment team, Placebo Nocebo is fine but holistic medicine and Ayurveda are tricky business. If not for the government funding these ideas, I would not entretain that woman for a moment" Dr. Bhavika, one of Mehr's team lead, who visibly had no clue what Dr. Sana actually did, practising holistic medicine. But as the member of the directorial board, she had to get things done, whether she understood or not, especially when a big chunk of finances from the state were involved.

This was a woman of critical thinking, and for her, everything was either black or white, and needed to be backed with evidence. Mehr, on the other hand, had often shown openness towards the unexplained side of medicine and therefore a suitable candidate to handle the project. Her other prowess was knowing what task to delegate, and to whom for best results.

"Dr. Sana", Mehr peeped through the door as the lady in question sat on her meditation mat during her lunch hour.

She was surprised but definitely not startled by this sudden interruption. She knew she would see this girl again. As a trained mystic Dr. Sana believed it was her duty to teach Mehr and help her learn about the immense beauties of this world and how there was more to health than just the black and white she had learnt in school. The science of the human body is just as magical as the very existence of life.

"Hi Mehr, Please come on in". Dr. Sana smiled as Mehr let herself in.

"Hi Ma'am, I hope this was a pleasant interruption." She asked cheekily, before unfolding her agenda.
"Absolutely, I admire pleasant interruptions from the ordinary. Haven't seen many patients in a while since the last episode. That was an intense case." Dr. Sana trailed off in thought, talking more to herself than Mehr.
Understanding the nature of the visit, Dr. Sana decided to show her ways of healing to Mehr so she could articulate it better. Holistic healing was as much of science to Dr.  Sana as was any of the other disciplines she had studied for. Showing Mehr around her office, she explained about the different geological composition and history of each crystal used for specific purposes of treatment. Mehr looked rather puzzled, looking through the bright spectra of colors lined up in fromt of her.

“You have been to our medical labs so far?” Dr. Sana asked softly, knowing already, the answer would be affirmative.

“Umm yes maam”  Mehr replied.

“You know crystals are used in most of technology, for sensor and detector development purposes”, Mehr looked surprised by this new piece of information. She had read about the liquid crystals display technology adopted in television sets. But, this was rather interesting to her.

Dr. Sana could sense the shift in intensity of interest as now she had Mehr focusing on the I genuinely of her work, and that too with an open mind.

Different minerals form differently rock formations. Every crystal we see in nature was formed owing to a corresponding structure and alignment. The ancient civilizations all over the world believed in the power of crystals to amplify energies.

“So is it all powerful?”, and if so then why do we need science. Mehr asked with a rather straight-faced. She did not want to mock the holistic healing department, but the question had been doing the rounds and there was no better person to ask. Especially when she seemed open to criticism and query alike.

“ Holistic healing takes time, and it’s highly dependent on faith” Dr. Sana explained.

“It’s like, if you channel loving and positive thoughts, you see a positive change around you. You ever heard of the water experiment where water crystalized differently based on what kind of words were spoken to it. Hurtful or hopeful, loving or vengeful. If you want, i shall share a copy of the publication with you” Dr. Sana could read people enough to know who would actually do the homework and learn, and not just ask questions to insight a response.

“So the reverse is true as well?” Mehr turned her head to the side. A different line of thought was shaping up in her head, what if the rumours about 913 were nothing but negative publicity? What if all those years of fear and anxiety had turned the place into an actual place of negativity? This was an experiment, Mehr would now love to try. A smile took shape on one side of her lips, as her eyes gleamed with some new found mischief. Work required her to learn about this department, why not go ahead with due diligence anyway.

Dr. Sana sensed a playful energy vibrate around her, this could be fun. Mehr asked if Dr. Sana would share literature resources and help her learn about the department with a deeper sense to dispel stereotypes and myths. It was supposed to be research for marketing purposes but Dr. Sana knew there was a deeper invested interest which she too wanted to grow. The more the merrier, anyway her reception had not been a warm one with the rest of her medical commune who regarded her with distrust.

Back home, Mehr reads through hoards of published research by eminent scientists around metaphysical phenomenon. Reading through her list of books, each night after work she learns more and more about the unexplained mysteries of the real world and even stumbles across the loosely guarded secret of room 913. It's only been 3 days since her last meeting with Dr. Sana, but it almost feels like ages. She now knows why Kshitij was scared when he saw her there, and understands why Nirvan teamed up with him. They were both trying to protect her. She feels she's closer to unraveling a mystery.

It's a late Sunday night and Mehr has been reading through literature on sleep meditation or Yoga Nidra. She doesn't realize when she drifts off into a dreamy world. This dream world would be very different from her usual dreams, and may change the way she looks at the world
